CropWalker iMap Overview
By adding a graphical interface to CropWalker, iMap an integrated mapping system,
provides a cohesive link between your map data and your field/cropping data held
in CropWalker. Growing numbers of schemes and management plans require farmers to
map their fields and management options. iMap addresses these requirements by allowing
a wide range of mapping data to be imported, from scanned paper maps (raster data) to the latest intelligent digital map data from Ordnance Survey - Master Map.
What will iMap do for me?
Once your basic farm map data has been imported, a suite of navigation tools give you control over the scale and viewable area of your map. Measurement tools provide an easy way of calculating lengths and areas, while the print/export facility will output your map to hardcopy or to a number of picture file formats for use in other applications, e.g. pdf, jpg, bmp. These are useful mapping tools, however, your farm map becomes much more significant and valuable when you start linking it to the field and cropping data already held within Cropwalker.
With the aid of some simple effective tools, within minutes your map will be displaying field names, and cropping information with user definable colour coded crops. From here, many of the standard Cropwalker functions can be applied; agrochemical and fertiliser recommendations can be created, operations can be logged and additional features such as trees, hedges and watercourses can be added to the map.
You can also choose how to display your data. A range of filters let you view only the information you want. If you need to show where all your Estima crops are planted, its one click, if you need a reminder which fields were sprayed last week, its one click (well, two!).
What mapping data can I import into iMap?
There are many different file formats that can be imported into iMap. These range from a number of raster formats such as scanned drawings and photo files, SHARP files, GPS data through to CAD vector files (such as AutoCAD). In addition to these, iMap has been designed to work with the latest mapping data from Ordnance Survey - MasterMap. This data is more 'intelligent' than standard vector data, for instance, areas which represent fields or buildings on the map are objects rather than simple lines.
This means that field areas on the map can very quickly be linked to the field & cropping data in CropWalker, without the need to 'trace' around the field boundaries.
Does iMap help me with the Entry Level Stewardship Scheme?
Yes, iMap will aid with the management of environmental items that are required to be logged as part of the Entry Level Stewardship Scheme'. A specially designed shortcut menu provides access to a list of options and management requirements, e.g. Boundary Features (EB codes), Trees and Woodland (EC codes), Buffer Strips and Field Margins (EE codes) etc. All of these items can be recorded and the relevant codes are displayed on the map to indicate the selected options. Areas, lengths and appropriate points are then calculated automatically and are available to print out in a professional report.
This is only an indication of the points accumulated and it is the farmers responsibility to ensure these figures are accurate.
