Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand to use Muddy Boots Quickfire
Following a recent visit to Auckland Muddy Boots are pleased to announce Sustainable
Winegrowing New Zealand’s (SWNZ) decision to adopt their Quickfire audit management
software.
Currently members of SWNZ cover 60% of the vineyard area and 70% of the winery production
of New Zealand. This figure is set to rise sharply over the next few years as a
result of the target set by New Zealand Winegrowers that aims to have all New Zealand
Wineries and Vineyards operating under a recognised independently audited sustainability
programme by 2012. The recognised programmes are SWNZ, or an alternate approved
scheme. Having set this goal the subsequent need for an efficient means of data
collection and information analysis lead SWNZ to Muddy Boots Software.
From July 2008 grape growers and wineries in New Zealand will be audited using Quickfire
software to perform all SWNZ audits. These audits are designed to monitor and improve
performance in terms of environmental, social and economic sustainability in both
the vineyard and the winery. Following data collection the resultant database will
enable SWNZ to identify key production issues that will enhance the long-term sustainability
of the winegrape industry. Reports will be generated for individual growers, regions
and the wider industry to drive the timely implementation of managed solutions to
sustainability issues.
Sally van der Zijpp, National Coordinator at Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand
has spoken of the partnership with Muddy Boots “The implementation of Quickfire
for Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand will help improve the efficiency of data
collection and information management for the industry. The New Zealand wine industry
has a reputation for producing premium quality wines with true environmental integrity
and we hope that our work with Muddy Boots and the information generated through
Quickfire will enhance this reputation.”
Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand was established
by volunteer grapegrowers in August 1995 as an industry initiative directed through
New Zealand Winegrowers. Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand was commercially introduced
in 1997 and has been adopted by growers from all the grape growing regions. For
